[Abrégé] des trois premiers livres de Zeneyde : anecdotes du regne de Childeric ; Suite de la quatri[eme] partie de Zeneyde ; Zeneyde, quatriéme partie, ca. 1747?

Manuscript, in ink, in an unidentified 18th-century hand. Title from caption titles of the three sections, comprising respectively p. [1]-55; p. 61-229; and p. 231-[484]. First word of title excised; supplied from: Cat. des livres de la bibliothèque de feue madame la marquise de Pompadour. Paris : J.T. Herissant , 1765. In the first caption, the words "anecdotes du regne de Childeric" are in another hand; preceding "de Childeric," the words "de Meroüée &" are lined through. The work is actually not a version of Zeneyde, by Anthony Hamilton (first published in his Œuvres mêlées en prose et en vers, 1731), but a copy of Anecdotes de la cour de Childeric, roi de France (Paris : Prault père, 1736). The latter work, published anonymously, was formerly ascribed to Hamilton, but is now known to be by Marguerite de Lussan. Cf. Barbier, A.A. Ouvrages anonymes, I, col. 180; BnF cat., notice no. FRBNF30847627. Paginated in ink on rectos only. Pages trimmed in binding, slightly affecting some page numbers. Part of top of p. [1] excised, including the first word of title; first 2 lines of text on verso (p. [2]) also affected. Second and third sections are bound out of order. Pages [56]-[60], [230] and 485-487 are blank; an unpaged blank leaf follows p. [230].
